SINGAPORE \u2013 The Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) is investigating a possible data breach involving PAP Community Foundation (PCF) Sparkletots, after a vendor informed the pre-school that information including details of pupils and parents was accessed without authorisation.<\/p>\n
The school\u2019s management notified parents and guardians of the potential breach in a letter dated June 1, seen by The Straits Times.<\/p>\n
PCF Sparkletots said in the letter that the \u201cpotential data security incident\u201d involved its vendor LittleLives, adding that \u201ca portion\u201d of the pupil management system used by the school was accessed without authorisation.<\/p>\n
A spokesperson for PCF Sparkletots, in a response to ST\u2019s queries, said on June 2 that based on a preliminary report, the unauthorised access has been contained. The school had been informed of the incident by LittleLives, said the spokesperson.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt this stage, there is no confirmation that any data has been viewed, downloaded or misused,\u201d added the spokesperson.<\/p>\n
PCF Sparkletots\u2019 letter to parents did not contain further details on the party behind the breach, when the incident occurred, or when LittleLives alerted the school to the matter.<\/p>\n
\u201cInvestigations are ongoing to determine the full scope and impact of the incident,\u201d said the school in the letter. It added that it has lodged reports with PDPC and the police, and is \u201cin close contact with the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA)\u201d.<\/p>\n
According to the letter, the information that was involved in the incident included:<\/p>\n
Pupil name and identification details<\/p>\n<\/li>\n
Class and centre information<\/p>\n<\/li>\n
Parent\/guardian contact details<\/p>\n<\/li>\n
Invoice-related information<\/p>\n<\/li>\n
Payment status or fee descriptions<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n

The school added that it would provide updates of significant developments.<\/p>\n PDPC told ST on June 2 that it is aware of the incident, and that it is investigating.<\/p>\n PCF Sparkletots said: \u201cWe understand that investigations are ongoing to determine the full scope and impact of the incident. The matter has been reported to the PDPC and a police report has been lodged.\u201d<\/p>\n Added the spokesperson: \u201cWe take our accountability for data protection seriously.
