{"id":57257,"date":"2026-06-02T01:50:59","date_gmt":"2026-06-01T17:50:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=57257"},"modified":"2026-06-02T01:50:59","modified_gmt":"2026-06-01T17:50:59","slug":"first-group-of-singapore-haj-pilgrims-return-home","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=57257","title":{"rendered":"First group of Singapore haj pilgrims return home"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">SINGAPORE \u2013 The first group of returning <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/all-900-singaporean-muslim-pilgrims-have-departed-for-haj-muis?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><span class=\"font-body-baseline-regular inline\" data-testid=\"paragraph-test-id\">Singaporean Muslim haj pilgrims<\/span><\/a> arrived at Changi Airport Terminal 3 on the afternoon of June 1.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The group, which consisted of 302 pilgrims from seven MUIS-authorised travel agents, returned via Saudia Airlines, said the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) in a statement on June 1.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The remaining pilgrims are still in Saudi Arabia and are expected to return on June 5 and 8, it added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">MUIS chief executive Kadir Maideen, accompanied by deputy chief executive Albakri Ahmad, was present at the airport to welcome the returning pilgrims.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The returning group were also greeted by family members gathered at the terminal to welcome their loved ones.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Faishal Ibrahim, who joined the pilgrims to lead his first haj delegation since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/politics\/faishal-ibrahim-to-be-acting-minister-in-charge-of-muslim-affairs?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><span class=\"font-body-baseline-regular inline\" data-testid=\"paragraph-test-id\">taking on the Muslim Affairs portfolio<\/span><\/a> in May 2025, said in a Facebook post on June 1: \u201cI am glad they are now reunited with their families and loved ones.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">He added that officers from the Singapore Pilgrims\u2019 Affairs Office (SPAO) will continue to support the other returning pilgrims throughout their journey home.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">\u201cTogether with their families and loved ones, we look forward to welcoming the rest home,\u201d Faishal said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">SPAO has been working with its appointed service providers since the start of the year to coordinate accommodation, transportation and medical services in the Saudi Arabian cities of Makkah and Madinah.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">It will continue working closely with the Association of Muslim Travel Agents and appointed travel agents to gather feedback on this year\u2019s haj season and identify improvements as part of MUIS\u2019 commitment to enhancing the pilgrimage experience for Singapore\u2019s Muslim community, MUIS said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">For the 2026 haj season, MUIS organised three coordinated direct flights between Saudi Arabia and Singapore for its 900 pilgrims.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">\u201cThis approach improved the coordination of pilgrims\u2019 movements\u201d and made haj operations more efficient, MUIS said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The haj is the fifth pillar of Islam and takes place annually during the Islamic month of Zulhijjah.
