The strip’s original creative team consisted of writer Stan Lee and artist John Romita, Sr. Romita left the strip in 1981, after which it was drawn by several other artists, most notably Lee’s brother, Larry Lieber. The newspaper strip ran consistently until 2019. The strip wasn’t set in the same continuity as the monthly ASM comic and was notable for first introducing the idea of Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson getting married.

These new Clover Press editions will reprint the strip chronologically, with each volume covering one year from 1981 to 1984. Each volume is produced in a horizontal 11″ x 8.5″ format, though the slipcases will be arranged vertically for easier storage.

“By the early 1980s, Spider-Man was firmly established on the newspaper page.” said Clover Press Publisher Hank Kanalz. “Following the success of our campaign to collect the first four years of The Amazing Spider-Man Newspaper Comic, we are thrilled to continue the line. The strips from 1981 to 1984 feature a more seasoned wall crawler navigating longer, more intricate storylines that balance action, emotional drama, and classic Peter Parker misfortune. This era paired Stan Lee with a rotating roster of artists, including Larry Lieber, Fred Kida, and Floro Dery, each bringing their own visual style to the daily strip.”

<output class="box-wrapper jsx-2673806401" data-cy="article-video"/>

The Kickstarter campaign for The Amazing Spider-Man Newspaper Comic: 1981-1984 is live now.

For more, see our exclusive interview with Punisher vs. Spider-Man writer Dan Abnett and learn more about Batman’s mysterious new butler.

Jesse is a mild-mannered staff writer for IGN.
