{"id":56931,"date":"2026-05-31T18:11:58","date_gmt":"2026-05-31T10:11:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=56931"},"modified":"2026-05-31T18:11:58","modified_gmt":"2026-05-31T10:11:58","slug":"east-coast-seafood-centre-to-be-redeveloped-nparks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=56931","title":{"rendered":"East Coast Seafood Centre to be redeveloped: NParks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">SINGAPORE &#8211; Tenants at East Coast Seafood Centre, including longstanding establishments such as Jumbo Seafood and Long Beach, have been informed<!-- --> <!-- -->to vacate as the area will be redeveloped.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The redevelopment is \u201cpart of efforts to rejuvenate the facility and surrounding areas to enhance the experience of park visitors\u201d, said National Parks Board (NParks), the centre\u2019s landlord.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">NParks said this on May 30 in response to media queries, after Jumbo Seafood <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/jumbo-seafood-to-close-flagship-east-coast-seafood-centre-outlet-on-sept-30?ref=most-popular&amp;ref=inline-article\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><span class=\"font-body-baseline-regular inline\" data-testid=\"paragraph-test-id\">announced it would shutter its flagship outlet<\/span><\/a> when its lease expires on Sept 30.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">NParks noted that East Coast Seafood Centre has been a popular dining destination since its establishment in the 1980s.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">It said it is studying the redevelopment of the centre in tandem with longer-term plans for the park, and that more information would be shared when ready.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">\u201cTo give tenants adequate time to make alternative arrangements, NParks had earlier informed tenants that they would need to vacate the premises in 2026,\u201d said the agency.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">It also said \u201cflexible lease arrangements\u201d were offered to support the tenants\u2019 transition, but did not give further details.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The Jumbo Seafood outlet at East Coast Seafood Centre, established in 1987, is the restaurant chain\u2019s first.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The closure of the outlet will likely affect the group\u2019s revenue for<!-- --> <!-- -->the 2027 financial year, said the restaurant chain\u2019s parent company Jumbo Group as it announced the closure on May 29.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">It said it intends to mitigate the impact through revenue contributions from its newer outlets, including those at Sentosa and Tai Seng, as well as its other existing operations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Jumbo Seafood has six other outlets elsewhere in Singapore, according to the company\u2019s website. It also has outlets in China, South Korea, Thailand and Cambodia.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">In a Facebook post on May 30 about the closure of its iconic 39-year-old outlet, Jumbo Group bade farewell \u201cto a place that has welcomed generations of guests and been part of countless cherished memories\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">\u201cWe are actively exploring new locations to satisfy your chilli crab cravings,\u201d it said, adding that the restaurant will offer a series of special promotions leading up to the end of its lease.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Besides Jumbo Seafood, East Coast Seafood Centre also houses Long Beach UDMC. The Straits Times has contacted both restaurants for comment, including about potential relocation plans.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Some other eateries at the centre have already moved out. Halal family restaurant Enak Enak\u2019s last day of operation at the centre was on Jan 18.
