ASUS has announced that its upcoming ROG Thor III<\/b> and ROG Strix Platinum<\/b> power supply units (PSUs) will ship with the company\u2019s new ROG Equalizer 12V-2×6 PCIe power cable<\/b>, a redesigned connector aimed at improving reliability and thermal performance for modern high-end graphics cards (read: NVIDIA\u2019s RTX 40 and 50-series GPUs).<\/p>\n
According to ASUS, the ROG Equalizer cable is rated to handle up to 17 amps per wire<\/b>, compared to around 9.2 amps for conventional 12V-2×6 implementations, providing additional headroom for power spikes and sustained heavy workloads.<\/p>\n
To achieve this, the cable uses tin-plated oxygen-free copper conductors that should help reduce electrical resistance while improving conductivity and flexibility. ASUS claims the cable can maintain operating temperatures below the material\u2019s rated threshold of 105\u00b0C, even under demanding conditions.<\/p>\n Image: ASUS<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n ASUS also shared internal testing figures showing the ROG Equalizer reaching around 87.8-degree Celsius in a simulated current imbalance scenario, while a conventional cable reportedly climbed to 146-degree Celsus under the same workload.<\/p>\n The cable also supports the latest ATX 3.1<\/b> and PCIe 5.1<\/b> standards and is designed to handle the power excursion requirements of today\u2019s flagship GPUs. It also features visual indicators to help users confirm proper connector seating, along with a flexible design intended to simplify cable routing inside PC cases.<\/p>\n The ROG Equalizer cable will be bundled with new ROG Thor III and ROG Strix Platinum power supplies launching later this year.
