The upcoming Fable<\/em> reboot has been delayed, Xbox announced in an X post on Friday. Previously planned for a fall 2026 release, Fable<\/em> will now launch in February 2027, though a specific release date has not been set.<\/p>\n

The post outlines several big-ticket video games yet to come out this year, like Halo: Campaign Evolved<\/em> and Grand Theft Auto 6<\/em>, and attributes the delay to effectively getting Fable<\/em> out of the way of all those other games. “In order to plan our game launches through the holidays, in a way that works best for players, we\u2019re moving Fable<\/em> to February 2027 so it can have the dedicated moment it deserves,” Xbox stated.<\/p>\n

On an episode of the Official Xbox Podcast, Xbox chief content officer Matt Booty said Fable<\/em> is in a good place in its development. “The game is in great shape. The team feels really good. We\u2019re excited about where the game is,” he said. “We really just wanted [Fable<\/em>] to have its own moment to shine.”<\/p>\n

Despite the delay, Xbox will still share a “major new look” at the game during the Xbox Games Showcase on June 7. The showcase will include new game announcements and in-depth looks at upcoming releases, like Gears of War: E-Day<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Fable<\/em> was announced in 2020. Developer Playground Games originally targeted 2025 for its release before it was pushed back to 2026. It was still set for a fall 2026 release as recently as last month. When Fable<\/em> does launch in February 2027, it will land on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.<\/p>\n

Fable<\/em> is a reboot of the choice-based RPG franchise that debuted in 2004. The last mainline game was 2010’s Fable 3<\/em>, and the reboot will be the first new entry since the 2017 free-to-play card game Fable Fortune<\/em>.<\/p>\n
