Smartphone snatchers may soon have one more reason to avoid the iPhone.<\/p>\n

According to 9to5Mac, Apple is developing a new anti-snatching security feature that can automatically lock an iPhone<\/b> the moment it is forcibly taken from a user\u2019s hand.<\/p>\n

The feature is believed to leverage the iPhone\u2019s onboard sensors<\/b>, including the accelerometer and motion sensors, to detect sudden movements consistent with snatch-and-run thefts.<\/p>\n

For users wearing an Apple Watch, the system may also analyse the distance between the iPhone and the paired smartwatch to determine whether the device has been taken away from its owner.<\/p>\n

Once the system confirms a likely theft, the iPhone could automatically trigger additional protections<\/b> similar to Stolen Device Protection. This includes requiring Face ID or Touch ID authentication before changing the Apple ID password, especially when the device is detected in an unfamiliar location.<\/p>\n

While there is no official timeline for the feature\u2019s rollout, 9to5Mac says references in Apple\u2019s code suggest the functionality is already under active development. With WWDC 2026 coming up, Apple could potentially preview the feature alongside its next-generation software updates.<\/p>\n
