{"id":55887,"date":"2026-05-28T08:37:36","date_gmt":"2026-05-28T00:37:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=55887"},"modified":"2026-05-28T08:37:36","modified_gmt":"2026-05-28T00:37:36","slug":"lta-warns-public-of-fake-e-mails-demanding-payment-for-unpaid-fines-erp-charges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=55887","title":{"rendered":"LTA warns public of fake e-mails demanding payment for unpaid fines, ERP charges"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">SINGAPORE \u2013 <!-- -->The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has alerted the public to stay vigilant against e-mails impersonating the authority that claim the recipients have unpaid fines and Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) charges.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">In a Facebook post on May 27, the transport regulator said that such e-mails often demand urgent action from recipients, requiring them to make payments through PayNow and log in with their Singpass accounts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The messages are designed to steal users\u2019 personal details, LTA said in the post.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">It also advised motorists to refer to official communications channels and check for outstanding fines through the OneMotoring website.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Those who have received such e-mails are reminded to not make payments or click on any unknown links.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The official advisory comes after a Reddit post on May 26, in which a user shared a screenshot of an e-mail impersonating LTA.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The e-mail informed the recipient of outstanding ERP fees, and urged the person to click on a link that has \u201ceverything you need to resolve this issue\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Scams in Singapore have cost victims <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/scam-tracker-what-are-the-trends-in-singapore-and-how-much-money-has-been-lost-in-2026?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><span class=\"font-body-baseline-regular inline\" data-testid=\"paragraph-test-id\">more than $4 billion since 2019<\/span><\/a>. In 2025, there were a total of 37,308 cases with $913.1 million lost.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The number of government official impersonation scam cases <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/courts-crime\/spore-scam-losses-fall-to-913m-in-2025-new-trend-of-victims-handing-over-gold-bars-to-syndicates?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><span class=\"font-body-baseline-regular inline\" data-testid=\"paragraph-test-id\">more than doubled<\/span><\/a> from 1,504 cases in 2024 to 3,363 in 2025.
