{"id":54806,"date":"2026-05-24T03:13:38","date_gmt":"2026-05-23T19:13:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=54806"},"modified":"2026-05-24T03:13:38","modified_gmt":"2026-05-23T19:13:38","slug":"the-meat-brothers-to-offer-alternatives-for-korban","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=54806","title":{"rendered":"The Meat Brothers to offer alternatives for korban"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">SINGAPORE &#8211; Muslims intending to perform the korban ritual in Singapore with local operator The Meat Brothers (TMB) have been offered alternative options, including a full refund or overseas slaughter of livestock.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">This comes after TMB said on May 23 that it would not be able to import the livestock from Australia in time for the annual slaughter, as it has yet to receive the required export approval from the Australian authorities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">\u201cGiven the current situation, it is now increasingly clear that the livestock will not be able to enter Singapore in time,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Korban \u2013 which refers to the Islamic ritual of slaughtering farm animals such as sheep and lambs, and the subsequent distribution of the meat to worshippers and the needy \u2013 is performed on Hari Raya Haji or over the following three days. Hari Raya Haji <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/muslims-in-singapore-to-celebrate-hari-raya-haji-on-may-27-mufti?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><span class=\"font-body-baseline-regular inline\" data-testid=\"paragraph-test-id\">will take place in 2026 on May 27<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) said in a media statement on May 21 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/arrival-of-livestock-for-korban-at-four-mosques-may-be-delayed-says-muis?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><span class=\"font-body-baseline-regular inline\" data-testid=\"paragraph-test-id\">that TMB\u2019s export permit was pending<\/span><\/a>, and that arrival of live sheep from Australia for korban services at some mosques may be delayed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">It said then that the delay could involve about 400 sheep, affecting Al-Firdaus Mosque in Choa Chu Kang, Petempatan Melayu Sembawang Mosque and Pusara Aman Mosque in Lim Chu Kang, and partially affecting Jamae Chulia Mosque in Chinatown, which has other suppliers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">On May 23, TMB said it would contact all those affected and offer alternative options, including a full refund.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">If participants would like to continue performing korban this year, they may choose to have their korban slaughtered in Australia. The meat will then be sent directly to them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Alternatively, they may opt for the korban to be performed in Medan, Indonesia.
