Non-StarHub customers, on the other hand, will pay S$380 for the same 12-month access.

What is the PL+ app?

The PL+ app allows subscribers to access matches across up to five devices with support for two simultaneous streams, making it possible to watch two different ongoing matches on two difference devices.

There are also a handful of interactive features built into the platform, including watch-party sharing, real-time match statistics, interactive timelines and “start over” playback controls if you join a match halfway through. StarHub also says PL+ supports multi-angle and multi-view viewing modes, although it remains unclear how extensively those features will be implemented across every fixture.

At first glance, this might just look like another Premier League subscription refresh. But the more interesting part is actually how aggressively StarHub is pricing itself against the Premier League’s own direct-to-consumer PL+ plans.

StarHub versus Premier League’s subscription

For comparison, the standalone PL+ app will cost S$44/mth, or S$399 annually if subscribed to directly through the Premier League itself. There’s also a S$16 24-hour pass option for short-term viewing access.

That means StarHub customers are effectively paying over S$160 less per year versus subscribing to PL+ directly.

In my honest opinion, if you’re already a StarHub broadband, TV+ or mobile customer, the S$238 annual pass feels like the easiest recommendation here. It works out to under S$20 a month across a year, which is a fairly substantial savings over the Premier League’s own monthly pricing.

For non-StarHub customers though, things become a bit less straightforward. At S$380 annually, the savings versus the direct S$399 PL+ subscription are relatively small. Once you remove the existing StarHub ecosystem advantage, the decision really comes down to whether you want everything consolidated under your telco billing, or if you’d rather subscribe to the Premier League directly and avoid another service tie-in.

The direct PL+ app also has one genuinely interesting advantage: flexibility.

The new S$16 24-hour pass feels like something Singapore football broadcasting has needed for years. Yes, really. Not everyone watches football every single weekend, and there are plenty of fans like me who only tune in for major derbies, title races, or specific clubs. In that sense, the shorter pass option probably makes more sense for casual fans who don’t want to lock themselves into another year-long subscription.

For years, watching Premier League football in Singapore largely meant paying for pricey sports bundles through either StarHub or Singtel. But the PL+ rollout feels like the league slowly testing a future where it can become its own streaming platform directly – just with StarHub currently acting as the cheaper middle layer for local customers.

Right now, existing StarHub subscribers probably benefit the most from that arrangement. But whether that remains the case a few years from now is another question entirely. Because, to adapt a famous football quote: the ball is round, and anything can happen in the increasingly strange world of football broadcasting.

Premier League football fans can already register their interest through StarHub’s registration page.

StarHub is becoming the launch partner for the Premier League’s new PL+ app in Singapore, as the telco looks to strengthen its hold on local…

[32
524,713,23189,629,6421,22,6939
post-54263","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-tech-gadgets-reviews","tag-app","tag-launch","tag-leagues","tag-partner","tag-premier","tag-singapore","tag-starhub","wpcat-32-id
["GET
