Do not expect new Mac hardware announcements at this year\u2019s WWDC 2026.<\/p>\n
Looking at Apple\u2019s past launch patterns, new Macs had only been unveiled at WWDC on four notable occasions<\/b>, with each announcement serving a specific purpose.<\/p>\n
At WWDC 2017, Apple introduced the iMac Pro, a move widely seen as reassurance to professional users that the company had not abandoned the high-end market segment. Apple found itself in a similar position two years later when it unveiled the 2019 Mac Pro at WWDC, alongside the Pro Display XDR.<\/p>\n
WWDC 2022, meanwhile, saw the debut of a redesigned MacBook Air. The following year, Apple expanded the MacBook Air lineup with its first-ever 15-inch variant, broadening the appeal of its mainstream notebook range.<\/p>\n
This year, however, Apple is facing a very different challenge<\/b>. The ongoing global memory chip shortage<\/b>, which is expected to persist until 2030, has already forced the company to reduce RAM configuration options for the Mac mini and Mac Studio. There is even speculation that Apple could discontinue the entry-level 256GB MacBook Neo due to rising component costs.<\/p>\n
Under such circumstances, launching additional Mac models at WWDC 2026 would only place more strain on Apple\u2019s supply chain<\/b>, particularly as the company struggles to secure enough components for its current lineup.<\/p>\n
More importantly, WWDC has always been a software-first event<\/b> focused on showcasing the next generation of Apple operating systems and giving developers a preview of upcoming platform capabilities.<\/p>\n
As such, WWDC 2026 is expected to centre on refinements to the Liquid Glass design language<\/b>, optimisations for the rumoured touch support on Mac, performance improvements, and broader stability and bug-fix updates across Apple\u2019s ecosystem.<\/p>\n
