A man\u2019s video about how he handled a school bully who slapped his son has drawn praise online, with many netizens applauding his parenting approach.<\/p>\n
Mr Shaun Yeo, whose TikTok handle is @shaunyeoy, posted the video on May 10 with the caption, \u201cLead by example. Show support during the \u2018downs\u2019. Celebrate the small wins. Always be there. Always be available.\u201d<\/p>\n
In the clip, Mr Yeo, 42, said his son had been slapped by a school bully outside school<\/a> grounds, adding that the bully had also shouted gang slogans.<\/p>\n \u201cSo I rushed down to where my son was, and I must say that I am overwhelmed with emotions when I\u2019m on the way there because this is not the first time the boy hit my son,\u201d said Mr Yeo, a content creator and former drug abuser who now speaks at anti-drug events<\/a> and community programmes.<\/p>\n Despite his anger, Mr Yeo said he made a conscious decision not to retaliate.<\/p>\n \u201cWho am I to hit him? He\u2019s also someone else\u2019s son, right?\u201d he said, adding he did not want to teach his son that violence was the solution to problems.<\/p>\n Instead, he brought the bully to the vice-principal\u2019s office.<\/p>\n \u201cI just wanted to let him know that this father very \u2018on\u2019 one, so don\u2019t come near my son,\u201d he explained. \u201cThat\u2019s what I meant about being present.\u201d<\/p>\n He concluded at the end of the video: \u201cYour kids just need a safe space to grow up in and know that my daddy will always be here.\u201d<\/p>\n The clip has since garnered more than 414,000 views, over 13,100 reactions and hundreds of comments.<\/p>\n Netizens were impressed with Mr Yeo\u2019s handling of the situation.<\/p>\n \u201cWah I don’t know what will I do if I am in the same situation, man (sic),\u201d one netizen commented, who also asked why the bully agreed to follow him to the VP\u2019s office.<\/p>\n Mr Yeo responded that the bully \u201ccan\u2019t run\u201d as he was in the same school as his son. \u201cIt\u2019s either I bring him to VP office today, tomorrow or next week.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cHow to subscribe to get a dad like you?\u201d asked another TikToker jokingly. \u201cI want to order this father\u2026Shopee got?\u201d another added in jest.<\/p>\n Others commended him for staying calm despite the circumstances.<\/p>\n \u201cWell done, bro. I am sure your son is proud to have you as his dad,\u201d said one.<\/p>\n Mr Yeo responded humbly to the praise.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m not as good as you think,\u201d he replied to one comment .\u201cWe are not perfect, la, but we try our best,\u201d he wrote in another.<\/p>\n To someone who said he wanted to learn from him, Mr Yeo responded: \u201cThere are better people out there to learn from bro. I\u2019m still a work in progress. Still trying to improve for my kids.<\/p>\n Some netizens also asked if his son was okay and whether the school had taken any action against the alleged bully.<\/p>\n Mr Yeo replied that his son was doing fine, though he had yet to receive updates from the school regarding disciplinary action.<\/p>\n Mr Yeo has three children \u2014 two sons aged 16 and 19, and a 13-year-old daughter.
