This will allow native access to Android apps and integration with Android smartphones.

Still, the bigger takeaway here is that Google appears to be moving beyond the “cheap student Chromebook” perception that has followed ChromeOS devices around for years. Googlebook feels much more like an attempt to compete directly against Windows laptops and Apple’s MacBooks instead.

<picture></picture>Play

Naturally, AI features are at the heart of the Googlebook. Google is introducing something called Magic Pointer, an AI-powered contextual assistant that surfaces shortcuts and suggestions depending on what you’re doing on-screen. There are also Gemini-generated widgets that can pull information dynamically from apps like Gmail, Calendar and Drive.

Googlebook laptops are also supposed to integrate more deeply with Android devices than existing Chromebooks do. Google says users will be able to access files from their Android phones more seamlessly, run Android apps more naturally, and sync information across devices more fluidly. Some of the desktop-style additions sound fairly familiar too, including pinned apps and files.

Availability and pricing

The first wave of devices will come from partners including Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo, although Google has not revealed detailed specifications or pricing just yet. More information is expected later this year ahead of a planned fall 2026 release.

Google has unveiled a new line of laptops called Googlebook.
