He has been a regular at the ECP outlet \u2014 located at Parkland Green \u2014 for the past few years, bringing his three adopted dogs there daily.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">He explained that the outlet was popular among pet owners, emphasising that his main concern was pets being banned from outdoor areas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">Describing the move as a \u201cconfusing directive\u201d, he said that dogs there were generally well-behaved, and that he had not witnessed cleanliness issues at the outlet.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">Ian also suggested that customers dining outdoors could be served with disposable ware to reduce cross-contamination or hygiene concerns.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">\u201cThe biggest issue, ultimately, is that this change seems to be coming out of left field from Starbucks,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">\u201cIt has always preached inclusivity, but this action will only further limit spaces for pet owners in a city that already doesn\u2019t have many animal-friendly spaces to begin with.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"lg:text-28 lg:leading-33.6px pt-md font-primary text-24 font-bold leading-1.2\">\u2018You cannot please everybody\u2019: Netizens split<\/h2>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">The post garnered hundreds of reactions and comments, and even made rounds on Facebook groups like <a class=\"text-primary-brand no-underline hover:underline\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/share\/p\/18kvHcut2h\/\" target=\"_blank\">Singapore Incidents<\/a> and <a class=\"text-primary-brand no-underline hover:underline\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/674659379342060\/permalink\/3700254296782538\/?rdid=6dVzV8cuIseVzCAr\" target=\"_blank\">Shiba Inu Club<\/a>. It also surfaced on the <a class=\"text-primary-brand no-underline hover:underline\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/SingaporeRaw\/comments\/1t9uqaa\/pet_owner_angry_as_starbucks_sg_is_transitioning\/\" target=\"_blank\">SingaporeRaw subreddit<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">In the comments section of the original post, some netizens supported Ian\u2019s stance, saying that they would avoid the cafe chain.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">\u201cI don\u2019t have a dog but will boycott with this stupid rule!\u201d a netizen commented.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">One netizen who said they were a Muslim added that they had \u201cno issue with owners bringing their pets to whichever cafe they want\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">However, others were adamant that the move to ban pets was \u201cunderstandable\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">\u201cAll halal establishments have the right to turn away pet dogs\/cats,\u201d the netizen said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">\u201cAiyah&#8230; u cannot please everybody. If not halal&#8230; people will complain that how can a multinational company in Singapore not cater to them,\u201d another pointed out.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">Addressing the post\u2019s virality, Ian told Stomp that he did not agree with others \u201cputting a racial and religious spin on it\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">\u201cThe post was never about race or religion. The post is about a business decision that limits choices for pet owners,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"lg:text-28 lg:leading-33.6px pt-md font-primary text-24 font-bold leading-1.2\">Pet owners confused<\/h2>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">When Stomp visited the Starbucks outlet at 8am on May 13, the sign in question was nowhere to be seen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">About six people were seated at the outdoor area, with three dogs in sight. Indoors, a steady stream of customers patronised the cafe.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">Carl, a 32-year-old data analyst, told Stomp that he felt it was important to have outdoor spaces for pet owners and their furry friends.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">The dog owner, who visits the ECP twice a week, said he would understand if pets were not allowed indoors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">\u201cBut outdoor places I think, why not allow it? Or maybe have segregated areas if they felt like they got complaints from people who don\u2019t like pets,\u201d he suggested.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">Another dog owner, Sujata, said the cafe\u2019s move to ban pets was a \u201cbummer\u201d as the park was \u201cone of the most dog-friendly places in Singapore\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">Others also pointed out that the outlet would serve treats for dogs. \u201cThat was very pet-friendly and now they\u2019re doing the opposite, it\u2019s very weird,\u201d Patrick, a 46-year-old software engineer, said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">However, he acknowledged that \u201cevery shop owner has the right to decide what they want to do\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">Jade, a 47-year-old dog owner who frequents the Starbucks outlet, expressed confusion about the situation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">\u201cI don\u2019t know what this has to do with halal-certified measures.
