It was a library of her life\u2019s work.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Tong, a prominent deaf illustrator and graphic designer who communicates through what she calls her \u201csilent language\u201d of art, kept the many canvases that spoke for her inside her flat in the Tai Po housing estate.<\/p>\n<div datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1xdhyk6 ec74h0k0\">In November last year, that library was reduced to ash in <span data-qa=\"Component-Text\" class=\"css-0 ef9u0v00\">one of Hong Kong\u2019s deadliest fires<\/span>. She lost everything \u2013 her awards, her backlog of street scenes and the sanctuary where she created them.<\/div>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">In the immediate aftermath of the November blaze at Wang Fuk Court \u2013 which claimed 168 lives \u2013 Tong and her mother stayed in temporary shelters. She shares with the South China Morning Post in a written interview that she felt \u201cforgotten\u201d for days, lost in a noise she could not hear.<\/p>\n<h3 type=\"h3\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"eh0yk8h0 css-17x7qa9 e1pqa4re1\">\u2018Moving from chaos and pain to calm\u2019<\/h3>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Rather than retreat into the grief, she started to draw again.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cAfter the fire, I lost my home and all my past work.
