In a post in the Facebook group Complaint Singapore on May 1, user Brad Lee shared a photo of the stall and accused the vendor of using “unethical sales tactics,” local outlet Independent Singapore <\/em>reported.<\/p>\n

Lee said he and his mother visited a durian stall at Block 113 Aljunied, where he asked the seller if he could open a durian to inspect it before purchasing. The seller allegedly agreed.<\/p>\n

“First durian I opened was okay, ripe and soft. I told him I wanted two more,” Lee wrote.<\/p>\n

Lee said he picked a different, smaller durian to open but the seller insisted on opening a larger one that he picked. “I was sceptical, but he reassured me it had more flesh,” Lee said.<\/p>\n

He said the durian turned out to have hard flesh and large seeds so he refused to pay for it.<\/p>\n

The seller then raised his voice and pressured Lee into buying the fruit, saying in Chinese: “I open already, you don’t want? You think what?”<\/p>\n

Lee also said the seller had earlier promised to give them the durian for free if the flesh turned out hard.<\/p>\n

But when Lee\u2019s mother asked the seller to taste the fruit, the latter refused, saying he does not eat customers\u2019 food.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

“My mother felt that he was being very unreasonable and kept raising his voice at us. She decided to pay $100 and leave as she did not want the situation to escalate,” Lee wrote.<\/p>\n

Some internet users also claimed to have had similar experiences with the same stall, with one person saying the seller was “famous” for using such tactics, according to AsiaOne<\/em>.<\/p>\n

“This shop will always try to force you into buying a durian. If you only want to look, he will start to show the durian and open it then when [the fruit is] opened ask you to buy,” one comment read.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
