SINGAPORE \u2013 Nineteen motorists were caught for committing traffic offences like jumping the queue and driving across double white lines at Woodlands Checkpoint during the Labour Day long weekend. <\/p>\n
Eighteen of them were caught while leaving Singapore. <\/p>\n
Their traffic offences included crossing double white lines, making illegal right turns, jumping queues or stopping in spots that posed a danger to, blocked or unnecessarily inconvenienced other motorists.<\/p>\n
The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA), in a statement on May 7, said 14 vehicles were told to make a U-turn and join the back of the queue. All of them were referred to the Traffic Police for further action.<\/p>\n
Four drivers of foreign-registered vehicles were caught and banned from entering Singapore.<\/p>\n
One motorist was caught for crossing double white lines while entering Singapore and was also referred to theTraffic Police.<\/p>\n
Double white lines are used to mark the centre of a two-way road and prohibit overtaking, U-turns and lane changes. Motorists who flout the rule can be fined. <\/p>\n
The motorists were caught between April 30 and May 3 when ICA ramped up traffic enforcement efforts at the checkpoint. <\/p>\n
ICA reminded travellers to maintain lane discipline when using the land checkpoints.<\/p>\n
It added that it will not hesitate to take firm action against motorists who violate traffic laws or do not follow officers\u2019 instructions at the checkpoints.<\/p>\n
Earlier in February, at least <\/span><\/a>59<\/span><\/a> motorists<\/span><\/a> were caught at Woodlands Checkpoint during the Chinese New Year festive period.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
