Apple has scaled back RAM options<\/b> for the Mac mini and Mac Studio as the global memory shortage situation worsens. <\/p>\n
The 32GB configuration for the M4 Mac mini has been removed,<\/b> leaving buyers with just the 16GB and 24GB options. As for the M4 Pro Mac Mini, that has lost its 64GB variant,<\/b> leaving users with only 24GB and 48GB configurations to choose from.<\/p>\n
The M4 Mac Studio is also affected. It is now offered only in two variants: 32GB<\/b> (paired with the 14-core CPU, 32-core GPU option) and 64GB<\/b> (for the 16-core CPU, 40-core GPU variant). For those who want the Mac Studio with the M3 Ultra, that\u2019s available only in a single 96GB RAM configuration<\/b>.<\/p>\n
The tightening of RAM options comes just days after Apple discontinued the 256GB Mac mini<\/b>. Apple CEO Tim Cook recently shared that it could take \u201cseveral months\u201d for supply to catch up with the \u201chigher than expected demand\u201d. <\/p>\n
While power users may find the reduced configurability frustrating, the upside is that Apple has not raised prices, at least for now. However, since the memory chip shortage crisis is likely to persist for years, the likelihood of future price increases cannot be ruled out.<\/p>\n
