Singapore Airlines is taking its next step in upgrading in-flight connectivity, and this time it\u2019s a fairly clear follow-through from what it first hinted at last year.<\/p>\n
The airline has confirmed that it will adopt Starlink\u2019s low Earth orbit (LEO)<\/b> satellite broadband across parts of its fleet, with a rollout starting in Q1 2027 and stretching through to the end of 2029. The upgrade will cover its Airbus A350-900 long-haul and ultra-long-range variants<\/b>, along with the Airbus A380<\/b>. It\u2019s safe to assume it will also be available on SIA\u2019s much-delayed Boeing 777-9 <\/b>aircraft too. But its A350-900 medium-haul, Boeing 777-300ER, 787-10 and 737-Max fleets have been excluded, for now.<\/p>\n
The benefits of LEO broadband over existing GEO-satellite are straightforward: faster speeds, lower latency, and a more consistent connection from gate to gate. Starlink\u2019s network, which now spans more than 10,000 satellites, can deliver up to 1Gbps per aircraft antenna<\/b>. This means there will be few connection dropouts (if at all) and enough bandwidth for things like Netflix-streaming, large file transfers, and even online gaming \u2013 all of which were previously almost.<\/p>\n
More importantly, SIA isn\u2019t changing its pricing model. Complimentary unlimited Wi-Fi will still be available<\/b> for Suites, First Class, and Business Class passengers, as well as PPS Club members. Premium Economy and Economy passengers can also access it, provided they log in with a KrisFlyer account.<\/p>\n
In-flight Wi-Fi isn\u2019t just a bonus feature anymore, and it\u2019s edging closer to being treated like a baseline service. And this move, more than anything, feels like SIA making sure it doesn\u2019t fall behind that curve \u2013 along with its upcoming cabin retrofit. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n
