The global memory chip shortage has pushed Apple to discontinue the base M4 256GB Mac mini.<\/b><\/p>\n
Previously priced at S$849, the 256GB model has been removed from Apple\u2019s website, with the lineup now starting at S$1,149<\/b> for the 512GB configuration, which remains unchanged since the M4 Mac mini debuted in October 2024. Its disappearance follows widespread stock shortages in Singapore and around the world.<\/p>\n
At the time of writing, the M4 Mac mini (512GB with 16GB memory) has an estimated delivery window of 26 May to 4 June 2026. Higher storage and memory configurations face significantly longer wait times of 10 to 12 weeks, or are listed as \u201ccurrently unavailable.\u201d<\/p>\n
During Apple\u2019s Q2 earnings call, CEO Tim Cook noted that both the Mac mini and Mac Studio are seeing \u201chigher than expected demand<\/b>.\u201d Combined with ongoing supply constraints, he said it could take \u201cseveral months\u201d for supply to catch up. Cook also warned that Apple is bracing for \u201csignificantly higher memory costs<\/b>\u201d in the months ahead.<\/p>\n
The broader outlook remains challenging. SK Group\u2019s chairman has cautioned that memory chip shortages could persist until 2030<\/b>, impacting a wide range of devices, including phones, tablets, and laptops. Industry estimates from TrendForce suggest laptop prices could rise by 40%<\/b>, while Counterpoint Research expects global smartphone shipments to declin<\/b>e this year amid rising component costs.<\/p>\n
