Total sales are estimated to be around 600,000 units.

Sources also told MacRumours that the device saw “an unusually high percentage of returns”, pointing to dissatisfaction among early adopters. Reports published a year after the original launch suggested that some owners regretted their purchase, citing discomfort during extended use, the device’s weight, and a lack of compelling apps as key drawbacks.

The Vision Pro team is reportedly being reassigned as Apple shifts its focus toward smart glasses. This aligns with earlier reports that the company had paused development of a more affordable Vision Pro variant to prioritise lighter, more practical wearables. However, the technologies used in the Vision Pro are not suitable for smart glasses due to their high-power draw. Apple is now believed to be exploring multiple smart glasses designs, with a potential launch window later this year or in early 2027.

When we reviewed the Vision Pro (M5) last year, we noted that its limited use cases and high price of entry could constrain its long-term prospects.

Taken together, the signs point to a product that clearly struggled to break into the mainstream. As it stands, it looks like the Vision Pro is a product that is ahead of its time, where its ambitions exceed what current technology is capable of delivering. Hopefully, Apple will find a way to incorporate some elements of it into its rumoured smart glasses.

Source: MacRumors

Word on the street is that Apple is looking to pull the plug on its first spatial computer, the Vision Pro.
