They are striking examples of the period\u2019s architectural hybridity, often called the Chinese Renaissance style.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">From 2019 to 2022, the restored mansion was used by a music school that the Aw family had set up. After it closed, the government started seeking a new steward for the protected Grade 1 historic building.<\/p>\n<div datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1xdhyk6 ec74h0k0\">In August 2025, it was announced that a non-profit called the Foundation for Art and Culture (FAC) had <span data-qa=\"Component-Text\" class=\"css-0 ef9u0v00\">won the tender<\/span> to operate the site starting in the second half of 2026 under a self-financing model to promote arts and culture and to foster international exchanges.<\/div>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">As its new chapter is set to begin, the South China Morning Post recently visited Villa Haw Par, the name under which it will reopen, and spoke to two key figures about their plans.<\/p>\n<div class=\"image-inline-container e1a5rv550 css-1llrc1m e1yqhwb40\" data-qa=\"Component-renderMap-StyledDiv\">\n<div class=\"image-inline caption e1fvabeq0 css-19sk4h4 ea9pn0s0\" data-qa=\"Component-Container\">\n<figure class=\"image-inline caption ea9pn0s1 css-1qeofuq e1gf69pb0\" data-qa=\"ArticleImage-ArticleImageContainer\">\n<div data-qa=\"ArticleImage-handleRenderImage-ImageContainer\" class=\"css-bjn8wh e1gf69pb3\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"The mansion features lavish interiors.
