No part of this story can be reproduced without permission from 8days.sg.<\/em><\/p>\n While some stars were out celebrating post-Star Awards 2026<\/em><\/a>, Mediacorp actor Cai Cheng Jun<\/a> had to be at the airport just hours after he reached home at midnight.\u00a0<\/p>\n The reason for the rush?\u00a0<\/p>\n The 26-year-old had to be back in Kaohsiung, Taiwan to begin filming A Prophecy That I’m Falling for You<\/em>, a 10-episode drama directed by Peter Ho.<\/p>\n It was announced earlier this month that Cheng Jun, who came in fourth during Star Search 2024<\/em><\/a>, had landed a supporting role in the drama. The cast includes Taiwanese actors Edward Chen and Tsao Yuning, Thai actress Aokbab Chutimon, as well as Mediacorp actor-host Guo Liang.<\/p>\n Cheng Jun plays A Li, a Singaporean exchange student studying in Taiwan, and the best friend of Edward\u2019s character.<\/p>\n And he’s feeling excited about his first overseas stint.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cI’m feeling so pumped up. Going overseas to shoot is like a whole different experience, and it is something I’ve always wanted to do ever since I joined the industry,\u201d he says, adding that filming in Taiwan wasn\u2019t part of his bucket list.<\/p>\n \u201cYou would think such things only happen when you have more experience, maybe after 10 years?\u201d he adds.<\/p>\n In fact, he admits to fanboying a little when meeting his cast mates.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve watched Aokbab\u2019s Bad Genius<\/em> when I was 19. And Edward in Your Name Engraved Herein<\/em>. It is not every day you get to meet and work with the people behind these iconic roles,\u201d he gushes.<\/p>\n The opportunity also came with another milestone. A more personal one: Living alone.<\/p>\n Cheng Jun admits that this is the first time he is living by himself: \u201cThat’s the scary part. Because I had to settle everything myself, from my laundry, and it\u2019s my first time buying my own meals. Back home, my family usually cooks.\u201d<\/p>\n He also admits he appreciates Singapore\u2019s public transport even more now: \u201cMany times, over here, you would need to walk at least 15 minutes to the nearest bust stop.\u201d<\/p>\n Before leaving for Taiwan, the Last but not Least <\/em>actor reached out to fellow Mediacorp stars Hong Huifang<\/a>, Tyler Ten<\/a>, Jernelle Oh<\/a>, and Andie Chen <\/a>for advice, all who have filmed in Taiwan before, while Andie is based there.<\/p>\n \u201cEveryone gave me good advice. Both Andie and Huifang told me to just come and enjoy myself. They said shooting overseas is a daunting task, but not to let it get wrapped around my head,\u201d he shared.<\/p>\n \u201cI realise now it isn\u2019t that scary. The people in production are like a big support group, and they said if I needed anything, just let them know,\u201d he adds.<\/p>\n In fact, he says that as Taiwan\u2019s warmest months are coming ahead, the crew on set have been quickly passing him a fan while filming.<\/p>\n \u201cThey are scared that I will burst into flames,\u201d he laughs.<\/p>\n So how is it like working with director Peter Ho?<\/p>\n Cheng Jun reveals that he initially felt the pressure while preparing for the role. But once filming began, things quickly shifted.<\/p>\n \u201cAs I have now played such boy-next-door roles three to four times, I found myself being performing in one way. Peter then said to change it up and would give me a look and ask if I could give something else. I can\u2019t wait to see the result because it feels so different,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
