SINGAPORE \u2013 Nude photos and videos of men in Singapore are being sold in a Telegram group, with the administrator saying the men were purportedly coaxed into sending the images to scammers posing as women<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n For a one-off payment of $600, members are offered access to a library of thousands of images and clips.<\/p>\n The Straits Times could not independently verify the extent of the collection or the group\u2019s claim of about 180 people in its membership base.<\/p>\n Previews posted in a Telegram channel advertising entry into the group showed men engaging in sexual acts, some of which were recorded through the messaging platform\u2019s live video feature.<\/p>\n In one video, a man in a military uniform is seen posing in front of a locker partially undressed.<\/p>\n When ST contacted an administrator of the group posing as a prospective subscriber, the individual said the content being shared was taken from men who had been \u201cbaited\u201d into sending the intimate photos and videos, believing they were communicating with women online.<\/p>\n Based on information on the channel, payments can be made through multiple platforms, including multi-currency digital wallets as well as cryptocurrency.<\/p>\n They can also be made through a QR code linked to the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard, or QRIS.<\/p>\n ST\u2019s checks showed the recipient was an account named \u201cBengkel Cinta\u201d, or Love Workshop, located in Rokan Hilir, Riau province, Indonesia.<\/p>\n Payments through a digital wallet required setting the destination country and currency to Indonesia, with the Indonesian digital wallet DANA selected.<\/p>\n The recipient was listed as a woman with an Indonesian phone number. ST\u2019s attempts to get through were successful only via text. <\/p>\n After asking if the person had the same name as the one listed on the payment page, the person deleted the chat and blocked the phone number that ST used.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, the group\u2019s administrators have been advertising its library of content on social media platform X.<\/p>\n The X account, set up in March, had more than 8,100 followers as at April 30. X\u2019s location feature showed the account is based in South-east Asia.<\/p>\n The administrators had set up another account at least a year ago, but checks showed it was suspended for violating X\u2019s rules, although the exact violation was not stated.<\/p>\n Based on the social media platform\u2019s guidelines, posting sexually explicit images or videos of a person without consent is strictly prohibited.<\/p>\n It notes that \u201cthis content poses serious safety and security risks for people affected and can lead to physical, emotional, and financial hardship\u201d.<\/p>\n The unlawful circulation of obscene photos and videos on Telegram involving Singaporeans has happened before, with the most prolific case involving a group called SG Nasi Lemak<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n It charged $30 for admission, and at its peak, had more than 44,000 members, with 29 administrators.<\/p>\n The group mostly dealt in intimate photos and videos of Singaporean women, and four suspects were arrested<\/span><\/a> in October 2019.<\/p>\n Two of them \u2013 aged 18 and 20 at the time of sentencing \u2013 were given a year\u2019s probation. <\/p>\n
