Logitech has announced the G512 X<\/b>, a new gaming keyboard that combines the worlds of analog and mechanical switches into one.<\/p>\n
The is possible thanks to its use of TMR (Tunnel Magneto Resistance)<\/b> switches. Similar to Hall effect switches, these can detect how far a key is pressed instead of just registering a simple on and off input. In games, this allows for more and better controlled movement or finer inputs.<\/p>\n
But that\u2019s not the best part.<\/p>\n
What really got me intrigued by the G512 X is its hybrid approach. Instead of going fully analogue, Logitech lets you use both analague and mechanical switches in any of the keyboard\u2019s 39 hybrid TMR switch beds<\/b>, which Logitech also says is compatible with \u201cmost popular analogue and 3-pin\/5-pin mechanical switches\u201d.<\/p>\n
This allows for an interesting Dual Swap<\/b> setup, so you can, say, keep WASD on analogue input while leaving everything else as a regular keyboard. Out of the box, the G512 X ships with nine Gateron KS-20<\/b> analog switches.<\/p>\n
The rest of the keyboard\u2019s features are what you would expect from a flagship keyboard: 8K polling rate, multipoint action (assigning two actions to a single key), dual dials, PBT double-shot keycaps and per-key RGB lighting just to name a few.<\/p>\n
