OpenAI could debut its own smartphone by 2028<\/b>, marking a significant step in the company\u2019s expanding hardware ambitions.<\/p>\n
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims OpenAI is working with MediaTek<\/b> and Qualcomm<\/b> to develop mobile chips, and with Luxshare<\/b> as the exclusive system co-design and manufacturing partner. <\/p>\n
Kuo believes two factors drive OpenAI\u2019s smartphone ambition. First, full control over both hardware and the operating system would allow OpenAI to offer a more seamless and comprehensive AI agent experience. Second, smartphones are the only devices that can capture a user\u2019s full real-time state. This makes them the most valuable source of data for powering always-on AI agents. <\/p>\n
OpenAI is also exploring a broader ecosystem strategy for the smartphone. Kuo says there could be subscriptions bundled<\/b> with the hardware and the creation of a new AI agent platform<\/b> with developers.<\/p>\n
Beyond smartphones, OpenAI is reportedly developing its own AI chips, web browser, and a next-generation social network. <\/p>\n
