Shortly after authorities apprehended a man suspected of attempting a shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, reports revealed that the would-be assailant was identified as a game developer. 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen, the man accused of rushing the media event attended by President Donald Trump, uploaded a game called Bohrdom<\/em> to Steam in 2018.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n On Steam, Bohrdom<\/em> was described as a chemistry game where players controlled electrons or nuclei in a “non-violent asymmetrical fighting game.” Most of the game’s marketing read like a technical jumble that made it difficult to understand what the experience actually was. For example, Allen wrote that Bohrdom<\/em> featured an “elastic collision physics engine, including custom collision detection functions and the capability to accurately resolve rotational components of collisions.”<\/p>\n Like most indie games on Steam, Bohrdom<\/em> never took off when it first released. After the events of April 25, the low-profile indie game suddenly saw a surge of interest on Steam. Bohrdom<\/em>, which only cost 49 cents, eventually reached a concurrent peak of 21 players over the weekend. The game also amassed more than 100 reviews, many of which refer to Allen’s alleged attempt at violence.<\/p>\n “Decided to pull the trigger, and give this game a shot,” reads Bohrdom<\/em>‘s top-voted review. “Not the most competent shooter. It feels rushed, and the strategic elements are poorly planned out … I look forward to this developers next project, whenever that appears. Probably in about 25 years to life.”<\/p>\n According to Kotaku<\/em>, Bohrdom<\/em> got review-bombed and now has a “mixed” reception on Valve’s platform. And now, a couple of days after its rediscovery, Bohrdom<\/em> can no longer be purchased. The game’s Steam page is still accessible, and anyone who owns it can still play it. As of this writing, there are three people actively playing Bohrdom<\/em>.<\/p>\n Valve did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n Per the New York Times, Allen is being charged with “two counts of using a firearm and one count of assault on a federal officer using a dangerous weapon”; more charges are expected in the future. Reports suggest that Allen rushed past security at the Correspondents’ Dinner armed with a shotgun and knives. Allegedly, Allen did not make it into the same room as the President. As reported by the BBC, after being apprehended, Allen told authorities that he wanted to shoot officials in the Trump administration.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
