higher in April 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mas.gov.sg\/bonds-and-bills\/auctions-and-issuance-calendar\/issuance-singapore-savings-bond?issue_code=GX26050H&amp;issue_date=2026-05-04\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">latest SSB offers a 10-year average return of 2.14%<\/a>, up from 1.99% for the previous month&#8217;s issue.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, I compared the <a href=\"https:\/\/growbeansprout.com\/tbills-vs-fixed-deposit-vs-ssb-yield-apr-2026\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Singapore Savings Bond (SSB) with fixed deposits, T-bills and savings accounts in April 2026.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>With the SSB&#8217;s 10-year average return of 2.14% above the <a href=\"https:\/\/growbeansprout.com\/insights\/savings\/singapore-best-fixed-deposit-rate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">best fixed deposit rates<\/a> in Singapore and <a href=\"https:\/\/growbeansprout.com\/t-bill-allotment-23-april-2026\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">latest 6-month T-bill yield<\/a>, the SSB may be worth considering for those looking for a relatively safe way to <a href=\"https:\/\/growbeansprout.com\/passive-income-singapore\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">earn passive income in Singapore.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In this article, I&#8217;ll examine whether it is worth applying for the current SSB or waiting for the next one.<\/p>\n<h2 href=\"https:\/\/www.mas.gov.sg\/bonds-and-bills\/singapore-savings-bonds\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">latest SSB issuance<\/a> offers a relatively attractive interest rate.<\/p>\n<p>If you hold on to the SSB for 1 year, you will receive an average return of 1.40%.<\/p>\n<p>If you hold on to the SSB for 10 years, you will receive an average return of 2.14% per year.<\/p>\n<figure the <a href=\"https:\/\/growbeansprout.com\/t-bill-allotment-23-apr-2026\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">latest 6-month Singapore T-bill yield of 1.40% on 23 April.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>However, it is below the latest <a href=\"https:\/\/growbeansprout.com\/t-bill-allotment-16-apr-2026\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1-year Singapore T-bill yield of 1.46% on 16 April<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"ssb-interest-rate-projected-to-dip-to-around-2.09%\">SSB interest rate projected to dip to around 2.09%<\/h2>\n<p>For those new to the Singapore Savings Bond (SSB), it&#8217;s important to understand that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mas.gov.sg\/-\/media\/MAS\/News-and-Publications\/Press-Releases\/Annex-1-FAQ.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SSB interest rates are closely tied to the yields of Singapore Government Securities (SGS)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Similar to T-bills, SGS are bonds issued by the Singapore government. But, they have a longer maturity of 2 years to 30 years.<\/p>\n<p>The interest rates on each SSB issuance are linked to the <a href=\"https:\/\/eservices.mas.gov.sg\/statistics\/fdanet\/SgsBenchmarkIssuePrices.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">daily average SGS yields as published by MAS<\/a> in the previous month.<\/p>\n<p>This means the 10-year average return of the upcoming SSB will largely mirror the yield of the 10-year Singapore government bond or SGS observed this month.<\/p>\n<p>As shown in the chart below, the 10-year SGS yield surged to around 2.4% in late March 2026, before falling back later in April.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color:rgb(255,255,255);color:rgb(18,18,18);\">The 10-year SGS yield stood at around 2.1% as of 23 April 2026.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color:rgb(255,255,255);color:rgb(18,18,18);\">The sharp move in yields in late March likely renewed inflation concerns and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/growbeansprout.com\/fed-singapore-blue-chips-mar-2026\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reduced expectations of near-term rate cuts<\/a><span style=\"background-color:rgb(255,255,255);color:rgb(18,18,18);\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color:rgb(255,255,255);color:rgb(18,18,18);\">However, bond yields have come down in the past few weeks with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/growbeansprout.com\/weekly-update-19-apr-2026\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"background-color:rgb(255,255,255);color:rgb(18,18,18);\">a de-escalation in the Middle East conflict, falling oil prices and easing inflation concerns.\u00a0<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<figure 2026,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/growbeansprout.com\/tools\/ssb-interest-rate-projection\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">our SSB interest rate projection<\/a> estimates that<strong> the next SSB may offer a 10-year average return of approximately 2.09%.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This estimate is based on the average closing yield of the 10-year Singapore Government Bond recorded so far in April, in the 10-year average return to below 2% in the previous SSB issuance, demand fell to the lowest level in the past 12 months.<\/p>\n<p>Applications amounted to S$169 million, a decrease from the S$193 million in March.<\/p>\n<p>This remains below the S$300 million of SSBs offered in the latest issuance.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"what-would-beansprout-do?-\">What would Beansprout do?\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>With the recent global geopolitical tensions, I have been evaluating my financial plan to make sure it offers me sufficient need.<\/p>\n<p>The<strong> latest issuance of the SSB offers a 1-year rate of 1.40%, and 10-year average return of 2.14%.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The 1-year rate of 1.40% is on par with the <a href=\"https:\/\/growbeansprout.com\/insights\/savings\/singapore-best-fixed-deposit-rate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">best 12-month fixed deposit rate<\/a>, but higher than the best 3-month fixed deposit rate.<\/p>\n<p>The latest SSB also lets us lock in a rate of 2.14% over 10 years, while having the flexibility to redeem prior to maturity.<\/p>\n<p><strong>With the 10-year average return on the next SSB projected to decrease to around 2.09%, it may be worth applying for the current one rather than waiting for the next SSB.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you are looking for the best
