Organizer ONE\u00b015 Events Management told Fortune Times<\/em> that the annual festival, launched in 2023, is no longer focused solely on securing sales transactions. Instead, it aims to engage a broader audience by offering immersive experiences and curated activities, with the goal of reducing the perception that yachting is an exclusive domain for the ultra-wealthy.<\/p>\n

ONE\u00b015 Marina,\u00a0located\u00a0at Sentosa Cove, does not sell or own yachts. It\u00a0operates\u00a0as a marina manager and facilitator, providing\u00a0the infrastructure\u00a0and platform for yacht transactions, chartering, and related experiences.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

As regional markets such as Thailand and Indonesia continue to grow, and younger affluent consumers increasingly seek experiential luxury, the festival is\u00a0positioning\u00a0itself\u00a0as a gateway to future demand. While Singapore\u2019s physical constraints may\u00a0curb the island\u2019s boat numbers, demand may\u00a0tilt instead\u00a0toward larger, higher-value vessels.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

He pointed out that his company\u2019s marina now berths yachts of up to 228 feet (about 67 meters), while superyachts can reach 400 to 500 feet, as commonly seen at yacht hubs such as Dubai and Monaco. ONE\u00b015 Marina currently offers about 274 wet berths and 60 dry berths.<\/p>\n

Mr Sit also pointed to the wider economic contributions of yachting, including jobs for captains, engineers, and crew, as well as demand for maintenance services, tourism, hospitality, and related supply chains. In his view, yachting extends far beyond luxury consumption and makes meaningful contributions to the broader economy. <\/p>\n

\u201cYacht owners often\u00a0stay at our hotel when\u00a0they visit, creating\u00a0additional\u00a0business for us. From our perspective, these vessels generate significant economic gains.\u00a0There\u2019s\u00a0a common\u00a0misconception\u00a0that the industry only serves the wealthy,\u00a0but in\u00a0reality,\u00a0it creates substantial trickle-down\u00a0effects.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

He also\u00a0observed\u00a0a clear flip in\u00a0consumer behavior among young affluent individuals, who\u00a0now prioritize experiences over material\u00a0possessions, favoring experiential luxury over traditional status symbols like branded bags or cars.\u00a0<\/p>\n

This trend is transforming the industry, driven in large part\u00a0by growing demand for yacht charters and shorter,\u00a0experience-led\u00a0trips. More clients are requesting itineraries such as \u201cthree days, two\u00a0nights,\u201d reflecting a resort-style preference, as well as quick regional getaways to\u00a0places\u00a0like Malaysia and Indonesia over long weekends. At the same time, the\u00a0buyer\u00a0profile is evolving, with many individuals in\u00a0their 40s\u00a0now scooping up\u00a080- to 100-foot yachts,\u00a0signaling\u00a0a younger demographic entering the high-end ownership market.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe rise in\u00a0ticket sales for this year\u2019s festival suggests that our programming is resonating well,\u201d\u00a0Mr\u00a0Sit said, adding that exhibitors have given\u00a0positive feedback on\u00a0the event\u2019s strategy in\u00a0attracting\u00a0new, high-quality clients.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The four-day festival, which began\u00a0on\u00a0Thursday and concludes tomorrow, continues to record a steady\u00a0yacht participation year-on-year at around 70 vessels. However, its emphasis has\u00a0shifted to\u00a0enhance\u00a0visitor experiences, expanding exhibition\u00a0offerings, and broadening engagement beyond buyers.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIn\u00a0the past, boat shows were seen\u00a0as just trade shows\u2026 if I\u2019m\u00a0not here to buy a boat, there\u2019s\u00a0nothing for me to do here,\u201d\u00a0Mr\u00a0Sit explained. \u201cNow this has turned into a\u00a0common\u00a0consumer event,\u201d where\u00a0non-buyers are also encouraged to come and explore.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He added that lifestyle elements are central to this makeover, including marina tours and on-water experiences\u00a0designed to introduce\u00a0newcomers to boating. Some first-time visitors, who previously had\u00a0no\u00a0interest in\u00a0yacht ownership, have\u00a0reportedly developed\u00a0an\u00a0aspiration\u00a0to own\u00a0one after attending.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cEven\u00a0if you\u2019re\u00a0not buying a boat\u00a0now, I want you to know what it feels like to own\u00a0one,\u201d he said. He shared an\u00a0anecdote about some visitors saying they\u00a0now hope to be able to afford a yacht within\u00a0five years. He described the festival as \u201cbuilding a pipeline of buyers.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe event is also\u00a0intentionally\u00a0planned\u00a0to be inclusive, with activities tailored for different groups, including families, ensuring there is something for everyone\u2014husbands, wives, and children\u00a0alike.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mr\u00a0Sit also discussed the growing feasibility of long-distance yachting, with\u00a0end points\u00a0as far as away\u00a0as Japan, Korea, Australia, and Europe,\u00a0noting that vessels have even\u00a0arrived from\u00a0Florida. However, he said the more practical model is expected to be a \u201cfly-in, cruise locally, fly-out\u201d approach, rather than\u00a0long-duration\u00a0sailing voyages.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He explained that owners are more likely to have their yachts\u00a0relocated\u00a0by captains to regional\u00a0destinations such as Phuket, where they then\u00a0fly in\u00a0to use them locally for leisure.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In\u00a0Malaysia, ONE\u00b015 Marina Puteri Harbour\u00a0targets Singapore-based boaters seeking weekend getaways, while in\u00a0Indonesia, developments such as ONE\u00b015 Marina\u00a0Nirup Island offer resort-style island escapes with customs-enabled yacht access. Alongside emerging operations in\u00a0Thailand, these initiatives collectively form a \u201cSingapore-centric yachting loop\u201d that supports regional cruising, charter tourism, and an\u00a0integrated superyacht ecosystem.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mr\u00a0Sit also mentioned Marina Keppel Bay, affirming that ONE\u00b015 had\u00a0entered\u00a0a \u201cprotocol option\u00a0agreement to buy this existing marina asset\u201d as part of its expansion\u00a0strategy, citing the difficulty of building\u00a0brand new marinas in\u00a0Singapore.\u00a0<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s festival also showcases two\u00a0new yacht models \u2014the Finnish-built\u00a0Saxdor\u00a0340 GTWA, which is making its Asia debut, and the Italian\u00a0Sanlorenzo\u00a0SX100 superyacht, making its Asia premiere.<\/p>\n
