NHK has learned that arrangements are now being made for Japan’s Princess Aiko to make an official visit to Singapore later this year.<\/p>\n
Sources related to the matter said the visit by the daughter of Japan’s Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako is aimed at promoting bilateral friendship. The visit is being arranged for November.<\/p>\n
This year, Japan and Singapore mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations. The princess is expected to make a courtesy visit to the Singaporean president and attend ceremonies during the visit.<\/p>\n
She visited Singapore’s pavilion at the World Expo in Osaka, western Japan, last May.<\/p>\n
The princess has been expanding her activities as an Imperial family member while working at the Japanese Red Cross.<\/p>\n
It will be her second official overseas visit, following a trip to Laos last year.<\/p>\n
Emperor Emeritus Akihito and Empress Emerita Michiko visited Singapore as reigning Emperor and Empress in 2006, which marked the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Japan and Singapore.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
