Butterfly<\/em>, which was adapted by David Henry Hwang from his Tony-winning play.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">In 1960s Beijing, Gallimard meets and falls in love with Song \u2013 or at least the carefully curated image of Chinese femininity she projects. In fact, she is a man \u2013 and a spy \u2013 passing state secrets to the Communist Party as the Cultural Revolution intensifies around them and Gallimard\u2019s life and career begin to unravel.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Based on a scandalous true story and echoing Puccini\u2019s opera <em data-qa=\"ContentSchemaRender-defaultRenderMapFunctions-Component\" class=\"css-1mniedq ex3nmsa15\">Madama Butterfly<\/em>, <em data-qa=\"ContentSchemaRender-defaultRenderMapFunctions-Component\" class=\"css-1mniedq ex3nmsa15\">M.
