Apple has announced a series of sustainability milestones as it continues working towards the goal of becoming carbon-neutral by 2030.<\/p>\n
Among the highlights, a record 30% of materials <\/b>used in Apple products shipped last year came from recycled sources<\/b>. The company also revealed that its <\/b>batteries now use 100% recycled cobalt,<\/b> while magnets across its devices are made entirely from recycled rare earth elements.<\/p>\n
Apple also made further progress in reducing its environmental footprint through packaging and emissions. All of its products are now shipped in fibre-based packages<\/b>, helping avoid the use of more than 15,000 metric tons of plastic. At the same time, the company\u2019s greenhouse gas emissions remain 60% lowe<\/b>r compared to 2015.<\/p>\n
Its supply chain is also playing a critical role. Direct suppliers have procured more than 20 gigawatts of renewable energy<\/b> under their Supplier Clean Energy Program, generating over 38 million megawatt-hours of electricity. <\/p>\n
To improve end-of-life material recovery, Apple has launched a new electronics recycling line in California. Called Cora<\/b>, the recycling line uses precision shredding and advanced sensors to achieve higher recovery rates than industry standards. Apple has also developed A.R.I.S,<\/b> a machine learning-powered detection system that can efficiently identify and sort electronic scrap. These systems join Daisy, Apple\u2019s iPhone dismantling robot, each of which can dissemble 1.2 million iPhones a year.<\/p>\n
