{"id":44729,"date":"2026-04-15T22:54:38","date_gmt":"2026-04-15T14:54:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=44729"},"modified":"2026-04-15T22:54:38","modified_gmt":"2026-04-15T14:54:38","slug":"two-iconic-satellite-dish-antennas-along-bke-dismantled","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=44729","title":{"rendered":"Two iconic satellite dish antennas along BKE dismantled"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">SINGAPORE \u2013<!-- --> <!-- -->Motorists travelling along the <!-- -->BKE <!-- -->may have noticed that two iconic satellite dishes, a fixture near Rifle Range Road for almost four decades, have been dismantled.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">A Singtel spokesperson confirmed on April 15<!-- --> <!-- -->that the satellite antennas are no longer at the Bukit Timah Satellite Earth Station, adding that removal works began in the first quarter of 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">\u201cThey have been removed to make way for future infrastructure that will support the evolving connectivity needs of enterprises and customers,\u201d the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Built in the 1980s to support international traffic on legacy satellites, the antennas were no longer in use when they were removed. The 21m dish was added in 1988.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Mr Wong Mun Chong, 57, who often passes through the Bukit Timah area, was surprised that the satellite dishes had been removed. Their removal feels bittersweet. Change is inevitable, but we\u2019re also losing a small yet meaningful piece of the landscape many of us grew up with.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Satellite dishes receive signals beamed from satellites orbiting the earth, which in turn relay signals transmitted from ground stations.
