In a leaked internal memo, Xbox chief Asha Sharma admits that Xbox Game Pass has become too expensive for gamers and that change is needed.<\/p>\n
If\u00a0you\u00a0recall, Microsoft increased the prices of all Xbox Game Pass tiers last year.\u00a0Though\u00a0the hikes for the Essential and Premium tiers were moderate,\u00a0the\u00a0gamers who subscribed to the Ultimate tier saw their monthly subscriptions increase from S$18.90 to S$29.99<\/b> \u2013\u00a0that\u2019s an increase of\u00a058%.<\/p>\n
Sharma added that Xbox Game Pass is central to gaming value on the Xbox, and that \u201cthe current model isn\u2019t the final one.\u201d She elaborated:<\/p>\n
Short term, Game Pass has become too expensive for players, so we need a better value equation. Long term, we will evolve Game Pass into a more flexible system\u00a0which\u00a0will take time to test and learn around.<\/i><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
It\u2019s widely believed that Microsoft\u2019s decision to increase the prices of Xbox Game Pass was partly because they were adding Call of Duty to the catalogue<\/b>.\u00a0There were concerns that doing\u00a0so would\u00a0have a negative impact on\u00a0Call of Duty sales, and raising subscription prices was one way to counter that.<\/p>\n
Clearly, it appears\u00a0that Microsoft is now\u00a0having second thoughts about\u00a0the price hike, and\u00a0word on the street is that\u00a0one\u00a0of the things\u00a0the company\u00a0would do\u00a0to\u00a0bring down subscription prices of\u00a0Xbox Game Pass is to remove Call of Duty from the service.<\/p>\n
