Starting in June, Singapore Airlines will launch a new Hangzhou\u2013Singapore route.<\/p>\n
On one hand, Hangzhou is home to major corporations such as Alibaba Group, generating substantial demand for business and international travel.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, the city continues to attract passengers from surrounding regions. These travelers can connect via Singapore to destinations across Southeast Asia, South Asia, Australia and New Zealand, and even Europe and North America\u2014representing the greater growth potential of this route.<\/p>\n
For Singapore Airlines, Hangzhou also carries additional strategic significance.<\/p>\n
As its ninth destination in mainland China, Hangzhou will become the second city after Guangzhou to be served by both Singapore Airlines and Scoot.<\/p>\n
Scoot primarily targets price-sensitive travelers with a focus on cost efficiency and value, while Singapore Airlines caters to passengers who prioritize service quality, cabin experience, and seamless international connectivity.<\/p>\n
The parallel presence of both brands signals a more refined, segmented approach by the airline group in serving the same market.<\/p>\n
For many, Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport may still be seen as a \u201csecond-tier airport.\u201d However, in terms of scale, international passenger traffic, and transfer capabilities, this label is increasingly outdated.<\/p>\n
By 2025, the airport\u2019s annual passenger throughput had surpassed 50 million, placing it among China\u2019s mega airports. International and regional passenger traffic exceeded 5.3 million, up 11.6% year-on-year.<\/p>\n
The addition of Singapore Airlines will further strengthen Hangzhou\u2019s connectivity with the global aviation network.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
