The award-winning Netflix series Beef<\/em><\/span>, which swept categories at the Emmys, Golden Globes and Critics\u2019 Choice Awards, returns on April 16 with its second season.<\/div>\n

Korean-American director and writer Lee Sung-jin said in an online interview that he was excited but found season two \u201ceven harder than the first\u201d season to make as he aimed to \u201ctake some big swings and risks while retaining what is special about the show\u201d.<\/p>\n

Unlike season one\u2019s road rage feud between lonely strangers<\/span>, season two unfolds at an elite country club where a young couple witnesses a shocking fight between their boss and his wife, and the web of blackmail that follows involving both couples and the club\u2019s owner, Korean billionaire Chairwoman Park (Youn Yuh-jung<\/span>).<\/div>\n

While season one focused on Korean-American stories, season two explores a mixed-race character\u2019s Korean roots.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a bridge between West and East,\u201d Lee said. \u201cCharles [Melton\u2019s] character is half Korean, caught in an identity tug of war as he\u2019s pulled into the upper echelons of South Korean society \u2013 the world of chaebol [conglomerate] families.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
