{"id":43709,"date":"2026-04-11T20:55:37","date_gmt":"2026-04-11T12:55:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=43709"},"modified":"2026-04-11T20:55:37","modified_gmt":"2026-04-11T12:55:37","slug":"driver-of-spore-registered-car-first-to-be-arrested-in-johor-under-new-ron95-petrol-rule-reports","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=43709","title":{"rendered":"Driver of S\u2019pore-registered car first to be arrested in Johor under new RON95 petrol rule: Reports"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">A man became the first person to be arrested by the Malaysian authorities for filling his Singapore-registered car with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/asia\/se-asia\/malaysia-has-enough-fuel-stocks-till-may-ron95-fuel-subsidy-to-stay-says-anwar?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><span class=\"font-body-baseline-regular inline\" data-testid=\"paragraph-test-id\">subsidised RON95 petrol<\/span><\/a> in Johor, following a<a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/asia\/se-asia\/enforcement-against-drivers-of-foreign-registered-vehicles-who-pump-ron95-petrol-to-begin-on-april-1?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><span class=\"font-body-baseline-regular inline\" data-testid=\"paragraph-test-id\"> ban that applies to foreign-registered vehicles<\/span><\/a>, according to media reports.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Johor Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) director Lilis Saslinda Pornomo said the man, who is in his 50s, was detained during an enforcement operation at a petrol station in Johor Bahru at 10pm on April 10.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">\u201cInitial investigations confirmed that the transaction involved RON95 petrol,\u201d she said in a statement, as reported by the Malaysian media. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">She said further checks were carried out, including reviewing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage at the petrol station, checking the purchase receipt and recording statements from the petrol station\u2019s employees. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Johor KPDN officers confiscated a Honda Civic car, CCTV footage, copies of the purchase receipt and related documents.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">\u201cThe foreign man, who is believed to be the driver of the vehicle, was also detained to assist investigations,\u201d said Ms Lilis. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">She said the case was being investigated under the Supply Control Act 1961 for purchasing controlled goods such as RON95 petrol using a foreign-registered vehicle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">If found guilty, individuals can be fined up to RM1 million (S$320,000) or jailed for a maximum of three years, or both. Repeat offenders can be fined a maximum of RM3 million or be imprisoned for up to five years, or both. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">For companies, the fine can be as much as<!-- --> <!-- -->RM2 million and increases to RM5 million for the second and subsequent offences.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">From April 1, drivers of foreign-registered vehicles are banned from purchasing the RON95 petrol.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Under Malaysian law, subsidised RON95 has strictly been for Malaysia-registered vehicles.
