It should read ‘United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).’ In response to Workers’ Party Member of Parliament (MP) Fadli Fawzi\u2019s questions in Parliament on Apr. 7, Minister for Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan confirmed that he had not spoken to his Iranian counterpart about safe passage for Singapore-flagged ships through the Strait of Hormuz. Vivian said that Singapore also took the position that the right of transit passage is also part of customary international law. Customary international law refers to international obligations that arise from established international practices, as defined by\u00a0Cornell University’s Legal Information Institute.
