This is according to Barclays analyst Tim Long, who said that Apple wants more buffer to ensure production goes smoothly.

This report was corroborated by a more recent report from Nikkei Asia, which said that manufacturing snags and engineering delays could push the launch to as far back as 2027. The report said the device is currently undergoing engineering verification testing, and that it hasn’t gone all too smoothly.

However, according to the latest report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the foldable iPhone is on track for a regular September launch. In his report, Gurman said:

While the complexity of the new display and materials may limit initial supply for several weeks, Apple is currently operating with a plan to put the device on sale around the same time — or very soon after — the new non-foldable models.

That said, Gurman also added that September is still some time away and that production has yet to ramp up. In other words, the timing isn’t final.

At this point, it’s hard to make out what’s what. But given the importance of this product and the fact that it’s been in the works for years, it’s difficult to see Apple delaying the launch by a large margin. Apple would definitely want to launch in early enough to capitalise on the December holiday shopping spree.

What’s more plausible then, is that Apple launches the foldable iPhone a little later than the standard models. An October or November timeframe seems most likely, and won’t be unprecedented because Apple did a similar thing with the iPhone X back in 2017.

Source: Bloomberg

About two weeks ago, a report said that Apple’s first foldable iPhone could appear in retail as late as December.
