The rental rates for the project studios at Goodman Arts Centre were last reviewed in 2012 and AHG has absorbed rising operational costs since then, Mr Baey said.<\/p>\n
“In parallel, NAC is studying the sector\u2019s longer-term needs and has been engaging and consulting the arts sector on their spatial needs and affordability of arts spaces,” said Mr Baey.<\/p>\n
“In planning for the future, NAC will take steps to ensure that arts spaces remain accessible and affordable for artists and arts groups.”<\/p>\n
Goodman Arts Centre was launched in 2011 as a pilot project under the NAC\u2019s FFAS initiative, meant to improve arts infrastructure as well as support the growth and development of the arts community.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n In 2017, resident artists raised concerns after increases in rents and service charges.<\/span><\/p>\n “Affordable workspaces are also key to ensuring our artists and arts groups\u00a0remain financially sustainable. To support our arts sector, NAC provides such spaces at rates below commercial rental levels,” said Mr Baey.<\/span><\/p>\n “In considering the need for any rates adjustment, NAC takes into account rising operational costs for the maintenance of these spaces and the need to ensure that the revised rates remain affordable compared to other commercial spaces in the vicinity and other arts spaces.”<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
