This is on top of the $155 billion previously committed in Budget 2026, which was Singapore\u2019s largest budget on record, Mr Siow said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The US and Israel had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/world\/middle-east\/israel-and-us-launch-attack-on-iran-targeting-its-leadership?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><span class=\"font-body-baseline-regular inline\" data-testid=\"paragraph-test-id\">launched coordinated air strikes on Iran<\/span><\/a> 16 days after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/budget-2026-all-the-highlights-you-need-to-know?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><span class=\"font-body-baseline-regular inline\" data-testid=\"paragraph-test-id\">Singapore\u2019s Feb 12 Budget,<\/span><\/a> triggering a broader regional conflict. In response, Iran disrupted traffic through the Strait of Hormuz \u2013 a key route for about a fifth of global oil and liquefied natural gas flows \u2013 contributing to surging oil prices and market volatility.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Corporate tax income rebate to be enhanced among Govt support for businesses amid Mid-East war\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/cnpQq5uLb0E?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">As part of <!-- -->the<!-- --> support measures, active platform workers, private-hire car drivers and taxi drivers will receive $200 in cash from the end of April. This is to cushion the impact on their earnings, which have been hit by the sharp increase in fuel prices.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Mr Siow acknowledged calls from some MPs to reduce fuel or diesel duties across the board, but said this would be \u201ctoo blunt an approach\u201d and could be regressive. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">He added that the Government also wants to <!-- -->preserve price<!-- --> signals <!-- -->to encourage<!-- --> consumers to use energy more efficiently, and that as an open economy, Singapore should allow fuel prices to reflect market realities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The Government will also temporarily co-fund cost increases for certain essential transport services so they can continue without disruption. These include transport for school students, seniors, and persons with disabilities. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">It will also share the cost increases directly arising from fuel price <!-- -->rises<!-- --> for critical government contracts, where any delay or stoppage would significantly affect the public interest.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">These include major government infrastructure projects, such as the Cross Island MRT Line <!-- -->and<!-- --> new HDB Build-To-Order projects. Eligible companies will receive the enhanced support from the end of April 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">In his Budget speech, Prime Minister and Finance Minister Lawrence Wong also announced enhanced U-Save rebates to help households with their <!-- -->utility<!-- --> expenses. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Eligible Singaporean HDB households will receive 1.5 times the regular <!-- -->U-Save amount<!-- -->, or up to $570, in <!-- -->the<!-- --> <!-- -->f<!-- -->inancial <!-- -->y<!-- -->ear 2026. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">In April 2026, more than one million Singaporean HDB households will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/over-1-million-singaporean-households-to-get-utility-service-and-conservancy-rebates-in-april?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><span class=\"font-body-baseline-regular inline\" data-testid=\"paragraph-test-id\">get up to $190 worth of U-Save rebates,<\/span><\/a> which will help defray the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/electricity-gas-tariffs-to-go-up-from-april-to-june-sharper-increases-expected-later-in-2026-ema?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><span class=\"font-body-baseline-regular inline\" data-testid=\"paragraph-test-id\">increase in utility bills from April to June 2026. <\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Eligible households will also receive up to $190 <!-- -->in<!-- --> U-Save rebates in July 2026<!-- -->, which<!-- --> will help to defray the much data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Mr Siow, who is also part of the Homefront Crisis Ministerial Committee <!-- -->addressing<!-- --> challenges arising from the Middle East conflict, said in Parliament that the Government has put together a \u201csubstantial first response\u201d to the energy crisis caused by the conflict.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">\u201cWe have drawer plans, and as events develop, we can put them into action and do more if the situation calls for it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">To fund these measures, the Government will work within the amount approved in the Supply Act <!-- -->in March<!-- --> and seek Parliament\u2019s approval for the supplementary budget later, he added<!-- -->.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\"
