A traveller was shocked when he was informed that the travel insurance he bought with Trip.com would not be valid as the travel dates did not match.<\/p>\n
Trip.com has since clarified that it was a misunderstanding.<\/p>\n
Stomper Cedric<\/strong> had made the booking with Trip.com in 2025 for a trip with his mother to Bangkok departing on March 30 and returning on April 5.<\/p>\n \u201cBefore confirming the payment, there was an option asking if I was keen to add-on travel insurance upon checkout,\u201d recounted Cedric. \u201cI decided that since I needed to buy travel insurance eventually, I might just get it done now.\u201d<\/p>\n About two weeks before the trip, he decided to go through the travel insurance policies to check that they were okay.<\/p>\n \u201cTo my shock, the return date is wrong,\u201d said the Stomper. \u201cMy travel dates are from March 30 to April 5, but my travel insurance policies\u2019 dates are from March 30 to April 8! <\/p>\n \u201cI contacted the insurance company and was informed that if the dates don\u2019t coincide with the actual travel dates, all potential claims will not be valid. They advised me to contact Trip.com to change the dates instead.\u201d <\/p>\n He reached out to Trip.com, but after three days without a response, he decided to contact Stomp on March 21.<\/p>\n Cedric asked: \u201cIf insurance policies are purchased as an add-on to a client\u2019s other booking, isn\u2019t Trip.com suppose to ensure the travel dates in the travel insurance are correct since there\u2019s no way I\u2019ll have access to check the dates for the insurance until it\u2019s issued?\u201d<\/p>\n In response to a Stomp query, a Trip.com spokesperson clarified on March 25 that the Stomper\u2019s insurance policy is \u201cfully valid\u201d.<\/p>\n The spokesperson said: \u201cWe understand that the insurer has contacted the customer to correct a previous misunderstanding. Our customer service team has also communicated this clarification to the customer.<\/p>\n \u201cWe apologise for any inconvenience or delay the customer may have experienced while an internal investigation was underway.\u201d<\/p>\n Cedric told Stomp on March 26 that Trip.com and the insurance company had informed him on March 23 that the policies are valid, even with the wrong return date.<\/p>\n \u201cThey said that as long as the policy\u2019s coverage dates are within the actual travel duration, they would be no issue with the coverage,\u201d explained the Stomper.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was a stressful period before their clarification. I just hope the others won\u2019t go through this same situation when buying insurance policies via\u00a0Trip.com.\u201d<\/p>\n Have something to say?
