SINGAPORE \u2013 A man on bail after being sentenced to jail for offences including mischief is accused of re-offending the next day \u2013 this time, by allegedly vandalising a police car<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n Chia Chee Khiang, 53, was charged with one count of vandalism on April 6. <\/p>\n He was also ordered to be remanded at Changi Prison Complex Medical Centre for a medical examination.<\/p>\n On April 1, he was ordered to spend 12 weeks behind bars after he pleaded guilty to two counts of mischief and one count of misappropriating items that belonged to others, worth more than $900 in total.<\/p>\n Court documents stated that Chia was at a badminton court in Jalan Membina, near Jalan Bukit Merah, on May 28, 2025, when he misappropriated items including an iPad, a power bank and a bag.<\/p>\n At around 11.30am on Feb 5, 2026, he was at a shop in Jalan Membina when he damaged a laptop worth $1,000 by punching and kicking it.<\/p>\n When he was in the same store at around 5.30pm that day, he used a hammer to hit a display case worth $1,200, causing glass fragments to scatter.<\/p>\n Chia pleaded guilty to these offences and was released on bail of $5,000 after he was sentenced on April 1.<\/p>\n For his latest case, he was at a service road near Block 83 Redhill Lane on or around April 2 when he allegedly caused multiple scratches to a parked police car.<\/p>\n Police said in an earlier statement that officers were alerted to the case at around 7.40pm that day. They arrested Chia two days later.<\/p>\n A police spokesperson said: \u201cPreliminary investigations revealed that the man had come across the parked police vehicle and used his key to scratch (its) doors.\u201d<\/p>\n His case will be mentioned again in court on April 20.<\/p>\n For vandalism, an offender can be fined up to $2,000, or jailed for up to three years and caned between three and eight strokes. <\/p>\n Chia, however, cannot be caned as he is over 50 years old.<\/p>\n This is the second case in recent weeks involving a man accused of vandalising a police vehicle.<\/p>\n Davin Lian Ke Xiang, 28, was handed a vandalism charge<\/span><\/a> after he allegedly threw an egg at a police car in Punggol on March 21.<\/p>\n His case is pending.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
