{"id":41157,"date":"2026-04-02T09:20:36","date_gmt":"2026-04-02T01:20:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=41157"},"modified":"2026-04-02T09:20:36","modified_gmt":"2026-04-02T01:20:36","slug":"10-people-arrested-over-alleged-fraudulent-work-pass-applications","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=41157","title":{"rendered":"10 people arrested over alleged fraudulent work pass applications"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">SINGAPORE \u2013 Ten people have been arrested in relation to alleged fraudulent work pass applications, said the Ministry of Manpower (MOM). <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">In a statement on April 1, MOM said the suspects, who included directors and employees from five construction firms, were nabbed in an islandwide enforcement operation on March 31.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Another 41 people are also assisting in investigations over their suspected involvement in such illegal arrangements, the ministry said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The ministry is also probing the Central Provident Fund (CPF) contributions of another group of more than 40 people in relation to the five firms. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The five companies had allegedly made CPF contributions to Singaporeans and permanent residents not under their employment, also known as \u201cphantom workers\u201d, to inflate their quota to hire foreigners, MOM said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The companies then used the inflated quota to apply for work passes for more foreigners. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">If convicted of making false declarations in work pass applications, the individuals could be jailed for up to two years and fined up to $20,000.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Their work pass privileges may also be suspended and they could be barred from working in Singapore. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Those who collude with companies by providing their particulars for fraudulent CPF contributions to meet the requirements for work pass applications may also be prosecuted, MOM said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The ministry said that those who are aware of illegal employment activities should report the matter through its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mom.gov.sg\/eservices\/services\/report-an-infringement?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><span class=\"font-body-baseline-regular inline\" data-testid=\"paragraph-test-id\">online form<\/span><\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">All information will be kept confidential, it added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/10-people-arrested-over-alleged-fraudulent-work-pass-applications\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Read Full Article At Source <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SINGAPORE \u2013 Ten people have been arrested in relation to alleged fraudulent work pass applications, said the Ministry of Manpower (MOM).
