Funny stuff like this can happen,\u201d he said, adding that he would not dwell on the issue and would continue tending to his plants.<\/p>\n<p>While some netizens sympathised with Jeremiah and called out the neighbour\u2019s actions, the video went viral online for a different reason.<\/p>\n<p>Discussions soon centred on the extent of his use of the common corridor, even sparking a debate on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.8days.sg\/entertainment\/local\/do-people-singapore-hate-kids-848791\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Reddit<\/a> over whether people should be allowed to grow plants freely in shared spaces.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Netizens divided over \u2018shared space\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On Reddit, many users questioned whether Jeremiah\u2019s garden had gone beyond what is acceptable in a common area.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe plant until other side of the floor? That\u2019s a little too much?\u201d one commenter wrote, while another said: \u201cThat\u2019s public space. No longer his plant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some also pointed out what they saw as irony in his statement about shared living.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2018We live in a shared space in a shared world\u2019, then proceeds to put his plants in other people\u2019s spaces,\u201d a user commented.<\/p>\n<p>Others felt that while gardening is fine, it should be kept within reasonable limits.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBe reasonable. Keep a few plants near your gate and it\u2019s give and take. Don\u2019t treat the corridor as your personal property,\u201d one wrote.<\/p>\n<p>There were also comments asking where the line should be drawn, especially in communal spaces like corridors and void decks, as well as concerns\u00a0about safety and hygiene.<\/p>\n<p>Some netizens raised practical concerns, including whether the plants could obstruct walkways, attract pests, or pose fire safety risks.<\/p>\n<p>Guidelines from NParks state that corridor gardens should maintain at least 1.2 metres of clear space for emergency access, with plants kept neatly against walls and not obstructing walkways.<\/p>\n<p>Jeremiah later responded to some comments on TikTok, saying that his plants do not obstruct the walkway and that his immediate neighbour has no issues with the setup.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy neighbour and I actually maintain our corridor together.
