{"id":40900,"date":"2026-04-01T10:06:37","date_gmt":"2026-04-01T02:06:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=40900"},"modified":"2026-04-01T10:06:37","modified_gmt":"2026-04-01T02:06:37","slug":"singapore-to-monitor-employment-with-ai-programme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=40900","title":{"rendered":"Singapore to monitor employment with AI programme"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">SINGAPORE \u2013 <!-- -->Sustained employment and wage progression are among the indicators the Government will continue to monitor as it pushes ahead with plans to train 10,000 \u201cAI bilingual\u201d workers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Under the National AI Impact Programme (NAIIP), the Government intends to equip the workforce with artificial intelligence know-how to solve problems and redesign work processes for more efficiency.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">There is no single metric to evaluate the success of the national initiative, but the Government would continue to monitor if employment rates stay high, said Minister for Digital Development and Information Josephine Teo during a media interview on March 27. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">\u201cUltimately, what people want is an assurance that they will still be able to do meaningful work,\u201d said Mrs Teo. \u201cOver time, we also want to make sure that Singapore continues to provide good opportunities for people to advance \u2013 and advancement must certainly involve wage levels. We will be looking at these broader indicators of whether, as a whole, the economy is still able to create and sustain good jobs, and that individuals who are part of the workforce continue to be able to make progress.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">For a start, AI fluency programmes will be crafted for the accountancy and legal professions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The NAIIP also covers plans to equip 10,000 enterprises with AI smarts over the next three years. These include grants for the adoption of AI tools such as chatbots and for market research.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The Government has lofty ambitions in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/how-singapore-will-build-its-ai-capabilities?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><span class=\"font-body-baseline-regular inline\" data-testid=\"paragraph-test-id\">developing AI fluency within the population,<\/span><\/a> but<!-- --> <!-- -->Mrs Teo acknowledged that there will be challenges along the way. These include figuring out a \u201cminimum vocabulary\u201d of AI know-how that professionals should have.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">This is similar to learning a language, where fluency means knowing a minimum number of words, she said. For example,<!-- --> <!-- -->having professional proficiency in English generally requires one to know around 5,000 words.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">\u201cDepending on the language, the minimum vocabulary is different\u2026 For a professional accountant, what is the AI minimum vocabulary (needed) in order to be effective?\u201d said Mrs Teo, noting that the standard for lawyers would be different.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/politics\/singapore-to-train-100000-ai-savvy-workers-by-2029?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><span class=\"font-body-baseline-regular inline\" data-testid=\"paragraph-test-id\">During the Budget debate <\/span><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/politics\/singapore-to-train-100000-ai-savvy-workers-by-2029?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><span class=\"font-body-baseline-regular inline\" data-testid=\"paragraph-test-id\">earlier<\/span><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/politics\/singapore-to-train-100000-ai-savvy-workers-by-2029?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><span class=\"font-body-baseline-regular inline\" data-testid=\"paragraph-test-id\"> in March,<\/span><\/a> Mrs Teo said the AI fluency programmes for the accountancy and legal sectors will be developed together with professional bodies such as the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants, the Singapore Academy of Law and the Singapore Corporate Counsel Association.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Accountants will learn to use AI in areas such as financial reporting and compliance monitoring, and lawyers will tap AI for research, document review and contract management.
