data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">SINGAPORE \u2013 Eight Singaporean taxi drivers operating under the cross-border taxi scheme have been arrested for alleged bribery to avoid punishment by Malaysian enforcement officers for their traffic offences, said the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB).<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The taxi drivers, aged between 47 and 74, are alleged to have given the bribes to avoid enforcement action against them for driving in the bus lane along the Woodlands-Johor Bahru Causeway, said CPIB.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">They were arrested on March 30.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Investigations are ongoing for the arrested individuals for alleged offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act, said CPIB. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">It said Singapore adopts a strict zero-tolerance approach towards corruption. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">\u201cCPIB will not hesitate to take firm enforcement action against any parties involved in corrupt activities,\u201d it added. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Taxis operating under the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/spore-malaysia-to-increase-cross-border-taxi-quota-to-500-each-allow-passenger-drop-offs-anywhere?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><span class=\"font-body-baseline-regular inline\" data-testid=\"paragraph-test-id\">cross-border taxi scheme<\/span><\/a> between Singapore and Malaysia are allowed to use only designated pickup and drop-off points after they cross the border \u2013 Larkin Sentral Terminal in Johor Bahru for Singapore-registered taxis, and Ban San Street Terminal in Singapore for Malaysian taxis.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Both countries\u2019 transport ministries said in December 2025 that cross-border taxis will be able to drop off passengers anywhere outside their home country under new agreements by Singapore and Malaysia aimed at improving travel convenience between the neighbouring nations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The ministries did not mention when the changes will take effect. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\"
