Apple\u2019s first foldable iPhone is shaping up to be \u201cthe most significant overhaul<\/b> in the iPhone\u2019s history\u201d.<\/p>\n
Unlike milestone redesigns seen with the iPhone 4, iPhone 6, and iPhone X, Bloomberg says Apple is preparing \u201ca<\/b> whole new design<\/b>\u201d for its foldable debut. <\/p>\n
Bloomberg has previously highlighted two key differentiators: a nearly invisible display crease<\/b> and a significantly improved hinge mechanism<\/b>, both critical in elevating durability and user experience in foldable devices.<\/p>\n
Beyond hardware, the foldable iPhone could also trigger Apple\u2019s most drastic software evolution yet. iOS 27 is reportedly being optimised specifically for the new form factor, with an iPad-like interface that supports running two apps side by side<\/b>. While such multitasking has long been standard on Android foldables, it would mark a first for any iPhone, which has so far been limited to single-app usage on screen.<\/p>\n
That said, the foldable iPhone is not expected to run iPadOS<\/b>. This means it won\u2019t fully replicate the iPad\u2019s multitasking capabilities or support its app ecosystem. Instead, Apple is likely to strike a balance \u2013 bringing select productivity features to iOS without blurring the lines between its mobile and tablet platforms. In terms of hardware, the device is rumoured to feature a 5.5-inch cover display<\/b> that functions much like a standard iPhone when folded. Additional features could include a Touch ID power button and Apple\u2019s in-house C2 modem.<\/p>\n
A recent analyst report suggests Apple may target a December launch window <\/b>for the foldable iPhone. When it arrives, its cost could potentially exceed S$3,000.
