{"id":40414,"date":"2026-03-30T16:16:36","date_gmt":"2026-03-30T08:16:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=40414"},"modified":"2026-03-30T16:16:36","modified_gmt":"2026-03-30T08:16:36","slug":"an-absolute-no-shanmugam-on-malaysian-activist-denied-re-entry-to-singapore-singapore-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=40414","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;An absolute no&#8217;: Shanmugam on Malaysian activist denied re-entry to Singapore , Singapore News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The Government will act decisively when it comes across instances of foreigners inciting Singaporeans to break the law and use violence, said Coordinating Minister for National Security K Shanmugam on Saturday (March 28).<\/p>\n<p>Shanmugam, who is also Minister for Home Affairs, also reiterated that the Government will not tolerate interference by foreigners in Singapore&#8217;s politics \u2014 a position which it has consistently upheld since independence.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is an absolute no. That position has not changed \u2014 and it will be firmly enforced,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>He was commenting on his Facebook about the case of Malaysian activist Fadiah Nadwa Fikri, who was banned from Singapore.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In his post, Shanmugam pointed out that Fadiah had encouraged local activists in Singapore to adopt her brand of radical advocacy.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When people attempt to interfere in this manner, we will act decisively.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It does not matter whether the instigator is Singaporean, Malaysian, or any other foreign national,&#8221; the minister wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Shanmugam also said the Government is increasingly seeing people from different parts of Malaysian society wanting to intervene in Singapore&#8217;s politics and policies \u2014 ranging from criminal penalties and foreign policy, to the ways in which the Republic organises itself.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The minister&#8217;s comments come a day after the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said in a statement that Fadiah had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asiaone.com\/singapore\/malaysian-activist-fadiah-nadwa-denied-entry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">encouraged students to go beyond protests<\/a> \u2014 to mobilise them and different communities in Singapore and to undertake disruptive and violent action to support specific causes.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"250\" width=\"500\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fk.shanmugam.page%2Fposts%2Fpfbid0fkC8KoEyb76TJh5jqK7f8Ey3w9c3x3Rgy7cECWN1uhsj7JvaCSUU6MRwV89XzMZHl&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=500\" allowfullscreen=\"\" allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; picture-in-picture; web-share\">\u00a0<\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2>Malaysian activist responds to MHA<\/h2>\n<p>Fadiah issued a response to MHA&#8217;s statement on X on Friday night, claiming that the Government had made &#8220;malicious, false, and defamatory&#8221;
