It doesn’t fold, flip, or even try to reinvent how you physically use a phone. Just looking at the specifications, the S26 Ultra looks like a continuation of what Samsung has already been doing for the past few years – a familiar slab that was refined rather than reimagined.

But after using it as my main phone for about a week, that’s not really what stuck with me.

Interestingly, it wasn’t the camera (which is actually pretty good) or even the usual performance gains you’d expect from a yearly refresh. What I kept noticing, almost every day, was the Privacy Display.

And I didn’t think I would care about it.

It is easy to toss the feature as a novelty when it was shown at Samsung’s keynote, where it announced the Galaxy S26 series, until you actually start using it outside of your home (actually, at home too). From MRT rides to queuing up at a crowded Trading Card Game convention – basically any time you’re not alone — Privacy Display really shows up when it matters. Yes, you can finally ditch that crappy privacy screen protector, too.

Privacy Display works by narrowing the S26 Ultra’s (it’s an exclusive feature not found on the other S26 series phones) viewing angles just enough that anyone beside you is effectively locked out, while you still get a clear, usable view head-on. It’s very subtle, but I found how it changes the way I use my phone. During my time spent using it, I stopped tilting my screen away instinctively, and I didn’t think twice about opening messages, emails, or even just doomscrolling TikTok videos without that nagging awareness of someone peeking over my shoulder.

By the end of the week, it stopped feeling like a feature and started feeling like something that should just exist on every phone.

And that to me, is probably why it stands out. In an era where most “new” smartphone features feel iterative at best, Privacy Display is one of the few additions in recent memory that actually changes behaviour. And once you get used to it, it’s hard to go back.

If you’re keen to make the switch, here’s where you can order the phone starting from S$1,828:-

Samsung Online Store

Samsung Shop App

Samsung Experience Stores

Samsung Official Store on Lazada, Shopee, TikTok, KrisShop, iShopChangi

Local telcos (Singtel, StarHub, M1)

Selected consumer electronics and IT online stores (Best Denki, Challenger, Courts, Gain City, Harvey Norman)

Read more:

Our articles may contain affiliate links.
